Homework Policy - Third Grade

Reading

All third grade students are expected to read between 60 to 80 minutes a week. Students will log minutes read on a nightly basis using a monthly calendar (which will be provided by each homeroom teacher). Calendars will be collected at the end of each month. Please note~ if your student attends Reading Club with Ms. Morey or Mrs. Gatto, he/she will utilize the log that is given by the reading teachers.

Language Arts

All third grade students will receive a short reading passage each night of the week that integrates instruction and practice. They will read the passage and answer the few questions that follow. These questions are based on commonly tested comprehension skills and strategies. The homework will be collected daily and reviewed together.

Math

Math homework is assigned in accordance to the NJSLS.

Mondays & Wednesdays- Problem Solving

Tuesdays & Thursdays- Fact Practice/Fluency

The goal of all homework is to reinforce concepts taught in class. Homework should never reach the level of frustration. If this is the case, simply send it back with a quick note. Your student and I will work together in class to complete the work.
